The Memorial is a huge exhibition and documentation centre covering 1500 m², dedicated to the Battle of June 1815. Its aim is to help visitors to understand the Battle before, during and after the fighting. It will feature a permanent exhibition gallery with a set combining the latest technologies, a shop, a conference room, a space set aside for temporary exhibitions and, on the lower floor, offices arranged around a big open-air patio.

Moving on from the reception area, you will find yourself plunged into a special, personalised world. Pick up your own personal audio guide, choose your character and immerse yourself in History! There are life-size soldiers to accompany you into battle. One room will also help you to understand the period weaponry. Then – just like the soldiers – you will wait in the encampment before joining the fighting. The film “Au cœur de la Bataille” will be played for you in 4D on a panoramic screen 26 metres long (unique in Europe!). Your visit continues to the Panorama, which has been fully restored, and the Mound of the Lion.You will then return to the Memorial.

Although it is underground, the Memorial is accessible to visitors with reduced mobility. A Memory Wall has been set up along the ramp, recording the names of all the regiments, both Allied and French, which fought on 18 June 1815. Twenty-four steel pillars face each other, depending on the side on which the regiments fought.

The Memorial really is a place of memories as well as actions and emotions, and it invites visitors right into the heart of the Battle that changed the fate of Europe for ever!
